Student ActivitiesKaleidoscopes (Playing Parties) are held at the School in November and February for all students fifth grade and younger. Each child plays a piece, and discussions center on music and performance. Only students and teachers attend. Each session lasts one hour and concludes with ice cream. Upper School Musicales for students (sixth grade and older) are held in November and March. These events follow the format of Kaleidoscopes. Students are strongly urged to participate in these playing opportunities. Student Recitals are held in the spring. The Junior Recitals (fifth grade and younger) are held at the Westport United Methodist Church. Upper School Recitals (sixth grade and older) are held at the School. Parents will be notified of the dates and times of both the required rehearsals and recitals. Parents and friends are invited and urged to attend these recitals. Theory Classes are held during the winter. A six week course will begin in January. Mrs. Meg Stoop will teach these courses. Students will be assigned to classes appropriate to their level of advancement and previous experience. Information regarding dates and times will be forwarded to parents in the fall. Students are strongly urged to attend these classes. A modest tuition fee will be billed for these classes, as well as for the cost of any required materials. All-School Chamber Music Concerts are presented every other year. We put as many students together in duets, trios, quartets, etc. as possible, and they are coached by various faculty members. The next such concert will be in late winter, 2010.
